Barry's Blog 23 2 23

Good afternoon to you all. Following from this mornings committee meeting and recent events affecting our club I write to keep you informed and up to date with current events. I do hope you find the blog useful.

Firstly, this week I reluctantly accepted John Backhouse's resignation from the committee. As most of you will know John has been a long serving member who has held many official posts within the club and has been influential in the club's development during his time. I and the committee wish John a "first class retirement" with more time to concentrate on his bowling and family. See you on the green soon John.

Not being one to let the grass grow under his feet, ever conscious of the work to be done, I have

co-opted Chris Lock onto the committee. Chris graciously accepted my invitation to join the committee and I look forward to working with him in the coming months.

We are always pleased to welcome help in running the club and I am delighted to tell you that following the Captains meeting we will be entering the same amount of teams in the various leagues as last year. It was however a very close thing. We had no captain for the Tadcaster Evening League B team until a week ago. Special thanks go to David Gunton and Graham Starkey, who, with guidance from John Backhouse and Sephton Baxter, have agreed to run the team. Well done to all concerned and good luck for the season ahead.

Continuing on a similar theme the (Tadcaster) season starts on 30 March with Richardson Cup games running throughout April. This means that each Thursday from 30 March to 20 April our green will be hosting matches; that in turn means we (ideally) need 2 members to host the match each week. I ask for volunteers to fulfil these duties. (its probable that we will need to host on

1 April as well. If you feel you can spare your time for the evening and have never "hosted" before I will ensure you are paired with an experienced "host".

If you can offer the time please let me know - first come first served!

The pre season meeting is on 9 March in the Church Hall 7pm for 7.30. This meeting has many purposes:

1. A chance to pay the annual subscription (£55) and the lottery annual investment of £12. Why not invest in 2 numbers and double your chance of winning!

2. The new clothing line will be on show

3. We have several new members. I look forward to welcoming them and trust they find the meeting useful

4. Hear about the progress of our 3 year development plan

5. Meet our new treasurer

6. Hear about the possibility of new structure for our internal competitions

You will by now be aware that Jane and Peter White have moved to pastures new. Jane will be sorely missed for her administrative abilities, particularly the organisation of our prestigious Vets Open competition. Its possible that some members have skills that could be useful to help in running this year's event. If you have admin skills and would like to be involved it would be lovely to hear from you. Unfortunately without such help I fear the event may not happen. That would be a crying shame as so many people across Yorkshire look forward to participating.

And so our needs continue! The attendance as per the maintenance rota for work on and around the green on Tuesday mornings is haphazard at best. Please refer to it if you are a "regular". If not on the list but would like to help its Tuesday mornings, ladies welcome!

Well I'm sorry that's largely been a cry for help, you will remember I have headed the three year plan as "We are all in this together" I think that is becoming our mantra. The shoulders of a few are only sooooooo wide!!

Look forward to seeing you on the 9th

Regards

Barry
