Dates for your diary 2026

SOCIAL EVENT:

It is proposed that the club organise an evening social event comprising a Beetle Drive and Dominoes which will take place on Friday 2nd October from  7-9.30pm in the Village Hall. Teas, coffees and cake will be available in the interval, there will be a raffle, and prizes will be given to the winners! Cost of tickets will be £10 and the event will be open to club members and the wider public. Further information to follow.

Could you please let me know if you would be interested so we can judge the amount of tickets likely to be sold.

ANNUAL PRESENTATION LUNCH:

Sunday 1st November at The Bridge Hotel Walshford. All members and their families are welcome.Further details to follow.

HOSTING FOR CUP MATCHES: Thank you to all the members who have helped host the matches that have been held on our green. We still require two members for each of the following dates:

Saturday 16th May
Saturday 30th May

Matches commence at 2pm, so you would be required to be at the green about 1.30pm to open up. New members who are able to help will be paired with an experienced member who will show them what is required. Please let me know.

Club Competitions:

Closing date for entries is May 10th. Entry sheets are on the notice board and in the scratching shed. £1 entry per competition. The club competitions are open to all members, new and not so new! The Triples will be held on Monday 25th May. Finals Day for the remaining competitions will be on Monday 31st August.

We encourage all our members to participate, including our new bowlers.

Boston Spa Festival:

Dates are 10-12th July. We will have our Open Day and recruitment drive on Sunday 12th and we will be asking for volunteers to help on the day.

The Scarecrow trail will be running from 8th - 14th July. There isn't a theme this year. Any suggestions are welcome. We have our mannequin in the scratching shed waiting to be dressed for the occasion! Volunteers are needed to organise our 'scarecrow'.

Fundraising:

Regretfully our quiz last year had to be cancelled. The quiz usually brings in a significant amount of money to help our accounts and in previous years our club events have made a positive impact on the whole community. Any ideas/suggestions/offers of help to run an event would be appreciated.

Thank you: To all the members who have spent many hours in the last few weeks cutting, trimming, watering, fixing, painting etc to get our green ready for the season.

Sunday Social Bowling

The green re-opened with our first Sunday Social Bowling session that went down very well, with 18 players turning up and having their first roll-up of the season.

There were a few achy arms, and a few misplaced woods but everybody seemed to be enjoying it.

We even had a few spectators to cheer us on.

I am hopeful that this session will remain popular and become part of the social bowling schedule for the foreseeable future, especially for those who can’t make the usual regular morning sessions.

Session time is 2pm to around 4pm, weather permitting.

Hope to see you there.

Cheers

Club Maintenance volunteers.

Every year we maintain our own club buildings and surrounds, and we are always looking to members coming along and helping with all the various jobs that need doing around the green.

These jobs are many and varied and to do them we need volunteers to go on a rota, with a few special projects on an ad-hoc basis.

Each new year we start a weekly rota and try to spread out the load as fairly as possible among the volunteers.

Every year we are looking for two or three people each week to clear gutters, cut the grass on the verges (but not the green, that’s for the Green Keeper to do), hedge trimming, and do general clearing up and odd tasks as required.

We have some volunteers from this year who we hope to keep for next year, but are looking to swell those numbers with some new ones.

If you wish to help the club in these essential tasks, then please let me know. I can then have you put on the rota for next year. Hopefully if we get enough volunteers, it may only be every 4-5 weeks that you would be required.

Your reward? Free tea and biscuit, and usually a bit of a chat, meet other members who you may not know, but most of all, contributing to a well maintained club.

If you have any specific skills (Carpenter, Painter etc) could you let us know, as we may be able to take advantage of those skills.

I hope to hear from many of you.

The maintenance day is Tuesdays from around 9:30am onwards for a couple of hours.
