2026 Over 90's Competition.
On the 2nd August 2026 I had the great pleasure of attending North Leeds Bowling Club's Over-90s Competition, where our club was proudly represented by Margaret Gardner, Irene Wainwright and Lew Wainwright.
The day was filled with excellent bowling, competitive spirit and plenty of good humour. Nineteen contestants took part, each playing a minimum of four (shortened) rounds over five hours – an impressive achievement in itself!
Congratulations to the Boston Spa bowlers, who all recorded excellent scores, with Lew progressing through to the final. A truly remarkable day that celebrated not only skill and stamina, but also the joy of friendship, sport and advancing years. Well done to everyone who took part.

Finals Day
Monday 31st August 9.30 for 10am start.
Please come and support the finalists, we'll need plenty of scorers and people to measure.
Refreshments and cakes will be available to purchase.
Janet Taylor will be organising a raffle, and is accepting prizes from now. Thank you for your donations.
Presentation lunch
Sunday 1st November
Details/menu choices will be displayed on the notice board outside the pavilion in the next few weeks.
Social Event
Beetle Drive/Dominoes
Friday 2nd October 7pm -9.30pm Boston Spa Village Hall, £10/ticket. This will be a great opportunity to catch up with fellow club members, and the wider community, whilst raising funds for our bowling club. Further details to follow.
Footers
We have purchased some new match footers and the worn out ones in the scratching shed will be replaced.
Health and Safety
If the cups are being bleached in the sink, please put the sign on the kitchen top to make everyone aware.
Closing of the green
The green will be closing on Sunday 13th September.
Essential greenkeeping needs to be completed prior to autumn.
Volunteers will be required to help with this work.
Sunday Social Bowling
The green re-opened with our first Sunday Social Bowling session that went down very well, with 18 players turning up and having their first roll-up of the season.
There were a few achy arms, and a few misplaced woods but everybody seemed to be enjoying it.
We even had a few spectators to cheer us on.
I am hopeful that this session will remain popular and become part of the social bowling schedule for the foreseeable future, especially for those who can’t make the usual regular morning sessions.
Session time is 2pm to around 4pm, weather permitting.

Club Maintenance volunteers.
Every year we maintain our own club buildings and surrounds, and we are always looking to members coming along and helping with all the various jobs that need doing around the green.
These jobs are many and varied and to do them we need volunteers to go on a rota, with a few special projects on an ad-hoc basis.
Each new year we start a weekly rota and try to spread out the load as fairly as possible among the volunteers.
Every year we are looking for two or three people each week to clear gutters, cut the grass on the verges (but not the green, that’s for the Green Keeper to do), hedge trimming, and do general clearing up and odd tasks as required.
We have some volunteers from this year who we hope to keep for next year, but are looking to swell those numbers with some new ones.
If you wish to help the club in these essential tasks, then please let me know. I can then have you put on the rota for next year. Hopefully if we get enough volunteers, it may only be every 4-5 weeks that you would be required.
Your reward? Free tea and biscuit, and usually a bit of a chat, meet other members who you may not know, but most of all, contributing to a well maintained club.
If you have any specific skills (Carpenter, Painter etc) could you let us know, as we may be able to take advantage of those skills.
I hope to hear from many of you.
The maintenance day is Tuesdays from around 9:30am onwards for a couple of hours.
